Boys of Tommen

It’s easier to get lost between the pages of a fantasy or a romance book because they help you to escape reality for a while. The same is true of movies. If you wanted to relax, I’m sure you would choose something simple over a documentary or a heartbreaking story. Let me tell you, this series isn’t something simple.

The Boys of Tommen series by Chloe Walsh follows the story of a group of teenagers back in the early 2000s. It shows you how each of them struggles with their childhood traumas and life challenges in their way, and how every one of them gets their happily ever after. For now, there are 5 published books. The author has yet to publish more than half of this book saga. Every couple gets two books where you can learn about their struggles in the first book and then follow their healing journey in the second book.

There are some trigger warnings like abusive households, teenagers with traumatic pasts, children with drug addictions, deaths of their loved ones and self-harm. It shows you the reality of some parts of this world. And it shows you that money isn’t security. Maybe the answer to a happy life isn’t money or power, maybe it’s something simpler and invaluable at the same time, like love.

Aren’t you curious to know how a girl with an abusive father is saved by a rugby player who gave her a concussion on her first day of school? How is a misunderstood eighteen-year-old boy is saved by the most popular girl in the school when he is at his lowest due to drug addiction and scars carved by his parents? Or how a boy who’s drowning in nightmares is saved by his best friend?

My favourite so far is the 6th instalment of this series. It’s about a little girl who lost her older sister and uses anger to cope with the hurt and pushes away everyone including the boy who was always there for her. How, despite everything, they find their way back to each other.

These books are filled with happiness, funny moments, tears, and every other emotion you’ve ever known. Give them a chance, and trust me, these books will become your Roman empire.
